I've got the guts!

No, no acts of courage or heroism.  I'm talking about something completely different here.  Today when I got home, my wife handed me an envelope from someone named Alan Petrucci, aka Brk Trt of Small Stream Reflections. I carefully opened the envelope and out slipped 2 leaders and a note from Alan. Alan said that someone had given him 2 Wright & McGill gut leaders at some time and since he knew I collect Wright & McGill stuff he thought I would like to add them to my collection.

After thinking what a great guy Alan is for thinking of me, I wanted to first off say a public thank you Alan! I don't know anyone who gets excited when they receive gut leaders in the mail, but I did. Alan guessed that the leaders were from around the 1950s, so the next thing I did was pull out the catalogs to date them.

1951 Wright & McGill catalog

Looking through the catalogs, I learned that 1951 was the last year Wright & McGill advertised Silkworm gut leaders in their catalogs. Nylon was the new material of choice. So I think it's safe to say that the leaders Alan sent me are at least 66 years old.

Needless to say, this made my day...Thanks again Alan! I'm going to make a display for my den.
